System shuts down at progress screen

Here’s my problem.

My Vista computer is (without any prior problems) shutting down at the progress screen. Computer will post, get to the progress screen and after a few seconds the bar stops and the system shuts down. It will not boot in safe mode either. It will boot from the vista disk but when I run the system repair it also shuts down. I tried a different drive and doing a clean install but it won?t finish and shuts down again. I have not installed any new hardware [vista hardware]mod.info/category/vistamods/>[hardware mods] or software. The one thing I can do is boot from a Knoppix CD, and it runs fine. I can see the vista drive and all its contents from Knoppix. I?m pretty stumped on this one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This is my configuration;

Vista 64 Ultimate
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Intel DG965WH Motherboard
1GB Kingston PC2 5300
PNY Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT
Antec 500W Power Supply
LiteOn SATA DVD
Seagate 320GB SATA

Vista can’t find printers

I have this problem on two different computers both with Vista Home Edition 32 bit. The two computers have very different programs installed on them the only simalar programs are office 2007 and Adobe reader so I’m thinking a program conflict isn’t the problem.
The problem is when I start up sometimes windows doesn’t see my printers I go to control panel and the click on printers and nothing shows. I have to restart the computer in order to get the printers usually one restart is enough but sometimes it is 3 or 4 times. This problem is intermittant it might happen two or three times in a row then be okay for a week.
I know right away that this has ocurred because Windows Sidebar hangs up and Word won’t start (because it needs printers to start).
I have this on two computers one is a lap top that came with Vista on it and one was a brand new system that I put Vista on. Does no one else have this problem?

Vista BSOD stuck at crcdisk.sys

Ok, so recently I built a new computer. On my old computer i have vista installed (which is what im using now). I thought i cud just transfer the hdd (its a sata hdd) to my new comp, but it flashes a BSOD 4 a sec, then restarts. I tried safemode and it gets stuck at crcdisk.sys. I tried startup repair, system restore, memory check, everything, even updated my bios yet still wont boot on my new comp.

My question is, with vista can you not just transfer a hdd from one computer to another? I want to use my new computer but cannot as vista wont boot on it. Can I install Vista on another hdd on that computer without windows yelling at me? (I only want to use one computer, but how can I do this?)

New comp specs:
cpu: q6600
mobo: Gigabyte GA-p35-ds3r/s3r
ram: OCZ gold ddr2 800
hdd: seagate 250GB SATA

or can I transfer files from current hdd to another, then reinstall vista completely (maybe even try 64bit edition)? I already activated vista, will that matter now?

Search does not display results

To clear things up, Windows Vista Search is giving me results, just not in the form in which I’d expect.

When I search for a particular term, I get, for arguments sake, 1066 results, all of various file types. Around 695 of those results are JPG pictures. If I click on the button to Show Only Pictures, then the details pane shows that there are now only 695 results, but the results don’t show.

In order for me to see the pictures, I ned to click on All, and then scroll the results until I find the pictures I want.

This only happens with when I try to filter a search to show only pictures.

Okay officially tomorrow I begin my build of a PC that will from scratch be running nothing but Vista 64 Ultimate. I have listed the hardware [vista hardware]mod.info/category/vistamods/>[hardware mods] below..

Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Processor: Core2Duo E6600
Motherboard: Gigabyte 965P-DS3
RAM: Corsair XMS2 800 Mhz CAS4 running 4×1gig(4 gig total)

Now if anyone can make some suggestions to tweak this then please do.. Also any build tips I should get?

Cannot Shutdown Vista - Possible RAM (BSOD) error

I am having problems with shutting down, when i click shutdown, it logs off, says its shutting down and turns the monitor off… BUT DOESNT DIE!

The computer just stays powered up for hours and hours… I have left it in this state for 3 days waiting to turn off… its not going to happen.

I was also having blue screens of death during installation of vista (until i removed 1 of the 2 DDR2 chips)

could the ram being dodgy also be stopping my shutdown

2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Quad, 2gb Corsair XMS2, XFX 8600GTS SLi, Asus P5N32-E SLi PLUS, 600W Silverstone, Thermaltake Armor
