Soundcard disappeared!

I’ve just installed an upgrade, but the friend who did it for me had to completely wipe out the previous XP OS, so that all my documents and programs are now under windows.old

But the soundcard seems to have completely disappeared! There’s no "Sounds" section in Control Panel and I can’t find any mention of the soundcard I KNOW I had anywhere!

Any ideas?

No sound with SPDIF, all cables working!

First of all I want to say thanx to all the people that helps in this forum :)

I have a X-Fi XtremeGamer in Vista Ultimate. I get no sound from it. I know all the cables are working, I have tested them from my other computer with a X-Fi Platina running on XP. Vista says the card is working and Ive tried connecting a set of headphones and chose speaker output instead of SDPIF and it works.

Anyone know any solution to this?

windows media player choppy at end of songs

I did some searching and didn’t find much on this problem. I recently installed Vista Ultimate and when I’m playing my music in WMP every song gets choppy for about 5 seconds or so at the end of every song. Also, when I manually click to play another song it takes 15-20 seconds to switch to that song, saying "media changing". I see no reason at all for it to be doing this, Vista is running plenty quick and smooth everywhere else. Here is one thing I tried. Right click the speaker icon in the tray next to the clock, playback devices, click on speakers/headphones, properties, enhancements, disable all enhancements. The only problem with that is then I can’t use my Creative SoundBlaster HD audio software and am limited to the graphic equalizer in WMP. I would prefer not to have to do this. Any help with this problem is appreciated.

Here is what my computer setup is.

Dell Inspiron E1505
Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83GHz (667 MHz FSB)
Crucial 2GB 667MHz dual-channel RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 256MB
60GB 7200rpm SATA HD

Sound Lag ?

Hi, I am getting strange sound lag. Dialogue boxes with a windows sound pop up and take about 1 second or so before I hear the sound and MSN sounds take the same amount of time.

however… If I have Windows media player open, the sounds are instant as they are suposed to be. OH.. ok so I shut that down and try with out.. and I have lag again. Is there a way to fix this?

CHeers for any help. :)

No Volume Control Icon in System Tray

I’m using Vista Home Edition and for some reason the volume control speaker icon isn’t in the system tray. It was a couple days ago and I don’t know what happened. I tried right click>properties>notification area>system icons but the “Volume” is grayed out. I’ve looked everywhere for a solution but I guess I’ve been looking in all the wrong places. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.Edit: Ok, I fixed the grayed out problem but now sometimes it pops up that a driver failed but was able to restart itself. I can’t remember exactly what it said (it goes away too fast). My screen goes blank for a few seconds then that alert pops up. No idea what to do about that.

Front + rear panel sound in vista

I have an expensive motherboard (ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe) with 5.1 sound (Realtek AC’97) IO on the back panel and an internal 10 pin (with 2 pins missing) AC’97 header to which I should be able to attach the AC’97 lead from my case’s front panel headphone + mic sockets. However, when I plug in the internal header, I lose the front left and right speakers from my 5.1 back panel socket (without getting it out the front socket either). I assume this is something to do with the way vista has only one “speakers” thing in control panel’s “sound” thing and how it detects if things are unplugged. The only way I have been able to get the back panel sound back has been to unplug the front panel from the internal IO header.

Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can use both the front panel (headphones) and back panel (speakers) without turning my computer off to attach a lead to the motherboard?

Sick and tired of Creative. Any Alternatives?

I’m tired of creative not releasing good drivers for Vista (32-bit, i know this is vistax64, but its the best vista forum i know of). The problem is that Creative is the only sound card manufacturer that I know of. Could someone please reccomend a different company that has good vista drivers?I’m looking for a card/usb that had fiber optic 5.1 support on vista 32-bit.
