I upgraded my PC and laptop to Vista. Only recently did I notice that the built in card readers (SD, MS Pro, etc.) do not respond. When the cards are inserted, the computers actually freeze up. I also tried an external card read with the same results. If my camera is connected via USB, then i am able to download files from the SD card. I couldn’t find a location that may have drivers for Vista. Everything I found was for XP.:(

1) in this OS where do I find my FAX?

2) in this system using VERIZON as an ISP, the verizon on line YAHOO/Security system with virus guard, IS it true this wont work on the virus guard with VISTA? Does anyone know of any Free good virus guards?

I would appreciate any ideas on the following problem I am experiencing. I have just picked up a Sony Vaio AR31S with Vista Home Premium installed, I have the a Belkin G+ MIMO router (F5D9230uk4) as my modem.

I am find connecting to the web very slow going indeed - for most web pages. I used the DRTCP app to reduce the MTU size to 1492 bytes for the LAN card and also for the wireless adapter but it doesn’t seemed to have worked.

The odd thing is I can access www.google.co.uk flawlessly. Having had the same issue with XP Pro before, the DRTCP app sorted it straight away but now I’m thinking there is something needed to be tweaked possibly in Vista… which is where I’m hoping you guys can help.

Any thoughts or comments would be gratefully received.

Anyone know a way to reduces the space between the extra large icons or other sizes? Without changing the icon size, I remember in 2000 it was easy to do but all icons were the same size.

On my new laptop everytime i try to do anything like add/remove programmes, Powerdesk automatically starts up, and not the usual control panel, i cant do anything it seams without powerdesk starting up. My virus package is up todate - please help - i cannot find a setting anywhere to turn it off - even in powerdesk itself. thanks

Can anyone tell me how to change these options in Vista? I tried looking in control panel but couldn’t find the settings.

1)When deleting a file in Vista 64 how do you remove the ‘confirm delete’ option when sending an item to recycle bin?

2)When games crash in Vista 64 a window pops up saying "Windows is searching for a problem to the crash" how do you remove this annoying option?

3)How do you lock desktop icons/shortcuts on the desktop?

4)In Internet Explorer ‘Favorites’ column how do you remove ‘confirm delete’ prompt when deleting favorites links?

I bought a new laptop back in febuary with the vista ultimate installed, i needed a good laptop to run programs such as cad as well as a few games when im home :), was asured this laptop was the best at the time would run everything i needed and look fancy doing it!!

Ever since i turned it on the thing has been slow and there has been endless driver problems (even the screen on it had the wrong driver and kept crashing) been in contact a few times with support they said vistas new give it time, then eventually after reinstalling vista 3 times told me to shut off all the fancy stuff like aero, moving backgrounds, transparency etc SO WHATS THE POINT OF THE ULTIMATE?? also its great when you lose the working things like tv card cant be found anymore and autocad 2007 wont even load anymore and i have to wait 15 mins minimal to be able to use it from turning it on (startup time is a joke) and networking does not exist to it!!!

got 2 other desktops and a laptop at home running xp all with lower spec and they run fine, no problems and they all connect on a network.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me???????

since installing Vista my hard drive seems to run forever. Is this normal??? I don’t like this.

I’m trying to create a service using the reskit instsrv and srvany. I had this one working perfectly before someone yanked the power while norton 2007 was needing a restart and the whole windows install became unuseable (sorry, i’m still a bit angry about this) every time i type <c:\reskit\instsrv.exe TrueCrypt c:\reskit\srvany.exe> in an admin command prompt, the service is created, then while i’m setting the arguements for the service, windows flags it for deletion and the service is useless.

could someone please help, i can’t start to rebuild until i get this to work.

I’m trying to connect my cellphone (Sony Ericsson) to my computer, using USB.
I’m using recent Vista-compatible drivers, however, the cellphone almost immediately states "session ended, safe to remove".
I gather that this is a Vista feature, that removes the little "safe removal" icon down in the corner of the Windowsbar.
Is there any way to disable this feature for this, or all, USB devices?
